PEARCE-SUNSITES, Cochise County, Arizona - Pearce gets its name from Jimmy Pearce, a small cattle rancher who happened upon a piece of gold ore as he sat down to rest on the side of a hill in 1894. He staked a claim for the Commonwealth mine, and the town of Pearce sprang up at the foot of the slope. Pearce boomed for several years. In 1919 the population was around 1,500. In the town were stores, saloons, restaurants, and a movie theater. The town of Sunsites sprang up in the 1960s and is a prospering retirement community. - Old Pearce Post Office: The Post Office was established in 1896. In 1967, the Post Office was moved two miles north to Sunsites. - Old jail cells?: These look like old standalone jail cells, but I don't know what they really are. - Dragoon Mountains: The Dragoon Mountains are home to Cochise Stronghold, which was the base of operations for Cochise, the famous Chiricahua Apache Chief. The rocky outcroppings form a natural fortress, protected from all sides. It provided a safe haven for the Chiricahua Apaches led by Chief Cochise.
